GRUFFALO ACTIVITY

BOOK RESEARCH

MAIN BRIEF RESEARCH

The Gruffalo has released a range of activity books one for each season; spring, summer, autumn and winter. Inside they have a range of activities for example a checklist called 'Whats that noise?' and you have to identify the sound and then tick it of your checklist, there are sounds such as 'Flies buzzing', 'Squelching Mud' and 'Bees buzzing'. There is also a section called 'Happy Habitats' which has questions such as 'What might you find in a tree?' and then the children have to use the stickers that come with the book and stick in the animals or objects that you would find in a tree. I think it is clever how they have created a book for each season as you will see/find different things on different seasons.

BUSHCRAFT ACTIVITY

RESEARCH

MAIN BRIEF RESEARCH

I have looked into various bushcraft activities that usually take place in forests and nature resorts with children, for example building a bug hotel, learning how to start a fire, making dreamcatchers and looking and learning about different types of bugs.

I have also read an article all about the importance of getting children outside and connected with nature as now a days too many children sit indoors playing games and watching television because of the way technology has gone.

AGE RANGE

RESEARCH

MAIN BRIEF RESEARCH

I have researched some books which are aimed at key stage 1 (5-7 year olds) to see the kind of content that are in them and also how they are designed whether it is predominately images with little text. I also did the same research for key stage 2 (8-11 year olds) to again see the content and how much content is in them and how much text and imagery is used. I did this because I want to get an understanding of my target audience and I think this will help me chose whether I aim my activity book at key stage 1 or 2.

These books are  very simple and have minimal text as a lot of it is focused on the imagery as children this age will find it easier to connect with them rather than the text. The covers of the books are also very bright and colourful again I think this is to make it more engaging for the children

Again the book cover is still quite colourful and engaging, but the content of the book is more text and less imagery. From looking at my research I have decided to aim my book at the 5-7 year old age range as I think I would rather include a lot more imagery and make it more bright and colourful, so I think this is best suited to key stage 1.
